A UK court has found a Nigerian couple guilty of modern-day slavery for harvesting organs, violating the UK Modern Slavery Act of 2015. The case was brought before Justice Jeremy Johnson at Central Criminal Court Old Bailey, and although the couple claimed the organ was intended for their sick daughter, Sonia, organ harvesting falls under the category of human trafficking, which is punishable by life imprisonment under the Act. This ruling emphasizes the UK's commitment to eradicating all forms of modern-day slavery and human trafficking, including organ harvesting. Such a judgment is likely to serve as a warning to individuals who engage in these illegal practices, and it reaffirms the UK's strict stance on this issues

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice alongside their doctor, Dr  Obinna Obeta, will today May 5, face a UK court for sentencing. The trio was in March this year convicted for conspiring to harvest the kidney of a trader they flown into the UK from Nigeria. The couple and their doctor were arrested in June last year and have been on trial since then.
