Osun State Governor Adeleke Pledges More Support for NYSC

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to provide more support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state. Speaking during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Agbor Ndoma Obim, and his team to the Bola Ige House in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke commended the scheme for its contributions towards fostering unity among Nigerians.

The governor stated that the NYSC has made it difficult for the nation to divide through its various programmes and the many inter-ethnic relationships it has facilitated. He also lauded the scheme for adhering to the vision of its founding fathers, promising to address the operational and financial challenges facing the Orientation Camp.

Adeleke promised to revive the support of Adeleke University, Ede, for the Orientation Camp. He stated that he had already approved the request for food augmentation, and the state's support for the office complex is almost completed. He also pledged to commence renovation works on the camp, starting with a face-lift by painting it.

In his address, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Agbor Ndoma Obim, appreciated Governor Adeleke for his unwavering support for the scheme since he took office as the Governor of Osun State. He extended the appreciation of the Director-General, Brig. Gen YD Ahmed, and the NYSC management to the Governor for personally presiding over the Swearing-in Ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream 1 and 2 in the state.

Agbor also listed the challenges bedeviling the scheme, starting with a request for the Governor to prompt Adeleke University to revive its support programme for the Orientation Camp. He also requested a befitting office complex for the scheme in the state, assistance with welfare and feeding augmentation during Orientation Course, and the prompt payment of the state subvention.

Other requests included the resuscitation of the State Honors Award, a new bus for the State administrative team, and support for Corps Members Community Development Service (CDS)projects.

The Governor's pledge to provide more support for the NYSC in Osun State is a welcome development. The scheme has played a vital role in fostering unity among Nigerians since its inception. It is hoped that other state governments will emulate Governor Adeleke's gesture by providing adequate support to the NYSC scheme in their respective states
