The Nigerian Customs in its war against smugglers of frozen poultry products has seized banned products worth N37,836,000.00 (Thirty Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Six Thousand naira), in the eighth (8) and Ninth (9) week of its operations tagged “Operation Hawk Descend”
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Comptroller-General of Customs, Joseph Attah, the seizures which consist of 8,408 (Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Eight) cartons of the frozen products were impounded at different locations along the south western borders of Nigeria.
The locations are Badagry/Yekeme, Seme Ashipa Creeks in Badagry Seme axis, Gbaji, Owode Creeks in Lagos and Idiroko axis.
The breakdown of the seizures is as follows:
2,213 cartons, valued at N9,958,500 in Ogun.
4,412 cartons, valued at N19,854,000 at FOU A.
200 cartons, valued at N900,000 in Seme.
1,583 cartons, valued at N7,123,500 at Western Marine.
Total cartons = 8,408 cartons with a total value of N37,836,000
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ibrahim (Rtd), has reaffirmed the commitment of the service to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in the act of smuggling, stating that all revenue leakages will be appropriately blocked.
He further added that "every act of economic sabotage including false declarations, deliberate misapplication of the tariff, undervaluation and concealment shall be dealt with decisively." while urging stakeholders to support the service in its resolve to secure the nation, boost the economy and create job opportunities for the youths.
