Senator Dino Melaye, has given reasons why he accompanied Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President, to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Melaye claimed he went as an independent investigator to ascertain the level of culpability in the allegation against his "sister and friend" by her petitioners.
His visit to the commission’s office along with the Senate President’s wife, he said, was a personal sacrifice aimed at preventing the commission from being compromised through influence by desperate politicians
He claimed it became necessary to explain his reasons, following the spate of attacks and criticisms he had so far received from his Nigerians since he was sighted accompanying Mrs. Saraki to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
Melaye, says he has no regret nor owe anyone an apology for his action.
Some people had insinuated that he may have been one of the beneficiaries of the contracts for which the former Kwara State First Lady was being questioned.
Melaye said he never executed any government contract, whether at the local, state or federal government levels in his life, and challenged anybody who says otherwise to provide evidence.
He further said “My loyalty to friends is not only when the going is good. I will be there even when the roads are rough. The invitation of Mrs. Toyin Saraki by the EFCC, however, is not a criminal indictment"
