Rev. Chris Okotie, a former Presidential candidate, has called upon the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, to show leniency towards Afrobeat star Seun Kuti in his recent altercation with a police officer. Kuti is currently in detention after allegedly slapping a police officer during a traffic encounter, sparking nationwide controversy.
In a press release issued in Lagos yesterday, Rev. Okotie, through his media adviser Ladi Ayodeji, advocated for amnesty for the embattled musician. The statement emphasized the importance of compassionate leadership and understanding the pressures faced by the youth in their quest for societal change.
Rev. Okotie urged the Inspector General of Police to balance justice with mercy and absolve Seun Kuti of all charges. He highlighted the significance of Seun and his brother Femi Kuti's musical contributions as inheritors of their father, the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The statement appealed to the IGP to consider the artistic legacy and creativity expressed through their musical genre.
As the court extended Seun's detention for an additional four days, Rev. Okotie's plea seeks to alleviate the gravity of the situation and invoke divine blessings upon the Inspector General of Police
