The Federal Government has appointed renowned auditing firms Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) and PriceWaterhouse Cooper (PwC) to conduct an audit of the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other revenue generating agencies.

The appointment was disclosed by Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole at the end of the second meeting of the panel set up by the National Economic Council (NEC).

Other revenue generating agencies to be audited include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

Also on the list of agencies to be audited are Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Revenue and Mobilisation Allocation Federation Commission (RMAFC), Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Finance, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) among others

The decision to appoint the two audit firms, Oshiomhole said, was for the sake of professionalism and the audit is expected to cover the period between January 1, 2010 and June 30, 2015.
