The Lagos State University (LASU) will resume academic activities on Monday, 18th May after being shut in April as a result of crisis between unions in the institution and the school management.

The state government met with the school's authorities and the unions to resolve the crisis that had rocked the institution for some time.

A vote of no confidence had earlier been passed on the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. John Obafunwa, who was accused by the unions of victimization of union members, improperly promoting some staff members, attempts to freeze the union's account, and abuse of due process by the management.

The union had demanded that the Vice Chancellor's appointment be reviewed or reversed.

A meeting was however held on Tuesday at the main auditorium of the University's College of Medicine in Ikeja, which had in attendance the management of the university, representatives of the governing council and the students union executives.

A communiqué was issued at the end of the meeting, signed by the Vice Chancellor and other parties involved to reopen the school for academic activities. Consequently, the school, as agreed will be reopened on Monday.
