Kano Emirates
Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reiterated that the four newly created emirates in Kano are permanent and will not be dismantled. Ganduje made this assertion during the Workers’ Day celebration held at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. He stated that the creation of the new emirates was intended to bring unity, progress, and well-being to the people of Kano.
Governor Ganduje had previously split the Kano emirates into five and dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi. The move was met with mixed reactions, and some people called for the reversal of the decision. Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), recently stated that the incoming government of Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf would review the dethronement and balkanisation of the emirate.
However, Ganduje maintained that the creation of the four new emirates was a symbol of unity, progress, and well-being of the people. He assured the people of Kano that the emirates were created to honor the people of the regions and to recover the reputation of the traditional institutions.
Ganduje stated that the new emirates had brought development to the regions and were created for the progress of the people. He further reiterated that the emirates were permanent and would not be destroyed, adding that God would not bring anyone to Kano State who would destroy them.
Governor Ganduje thanked the people of Kano for their support and stated that even if he was not in government, he would continue to pray for God to protect the emirates from all forms of evil. The governor's statement is expected to put to rest any speculation about the possible dismantling of the newly created emirates.
