IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigeria Police Force of forcing criminals to confess to being members of IPOB or Eastern Security Network (ESN). According to a statement issued by the group's Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the police use the media to blackmail IPOB for crimes they mastermind, and they make assertions without proper investigation. The group also stated that none of the criminals arrested belongs to IPOB, but the police make up their news to blackmail the peaceful movement.
IPOB, a separatist group under the leadership of detained Nnamdi Kanu, maintained that neither IPOB nor ESN operatives indulge in criminality. The group insisted that the people behind kidnapping in Anambra and other parts of the Southeast are not its members or ESN operatives, and the Nigeria Police Force knew those who were the real criminals.
The statement accused the government of hunting its members down for protecting their lands against the invading Fulani terrorists nicknamed herdsmen. It emphasized that IPOB and ESN are focused on defending their lands from terrorists and restoring Biafra as an independent state, not on terrorizing their own people.
The group described the police's action as absurd and unprofessional and wondered how they keep linking innocent members of IPOB to criminal activities because of their hatred and blackmail agenda against IPOB. IPOB accused the police of ridiculing themselves and making a mockery of the professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force by arranging criminals to confess as belonging to IPOB or ESN without public arraignment in court.
IPOB insists that the Nigeria Police Force should desist from linking innocent members of IPOB to criminal activities and focus on arresting the real criminals behind the kidnapping in Anambra and other parts of the Southeast. The group emphasized that it remains committed to defending its lands against terrorists and restoring Biafra as an independent state.
