A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Mohammed Sambo Dasuki, on self-recognition after he pleaded not guilty to a one count charge of illegal possession of firearms.
The Department of State Security charged the former NSA to court on a one count charge of possession of firearms without license, an offence punishable under Section 27 (1) (a) (i) of the Firearms CAP F28 LFN 2004.
He however pleaded not guilty.
His lead defence counsel, and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Bodunrin Daodu (SAN) asked for his bail expressing that the alleged offence was bailable and the law presumes the accused innocent until proven otherwise in court.
Lead prosecutor, Mohammed Diri who is the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) raised no objection, leading Justice Adeniyi Ademola to consequently grant Dansuki bail.
Dansuki's travelling documents were however ordered to be deposited with the Deputy Chief Registrar, Litigation of the court.
