Denis Suarez, 21, has joined Villarreal from Barcelona after negotiating a deal to end his loan agreement with Sevilla.
The midfielder, joined Barcelona in 2013 and agreed a two-year loan switch to Sevilla in 2014.
According to reports from Sport, Villarreal agreed to pay Sevilla €4 million to cut short the loan deal and then sealed a permanent move from Barcelona on a free transfer.
On Saturday, Villarreal announced that Suarez had passed a medical and agreed a four-year contract at El Madrigal.
The deal was confirmed by Barcelona on their official website, saying they have an option to repurchase the player, for €3m at the end of this season or €6m at the end of the 2016-17 campaign according to Sport reports.
A statement on the Catalan club's website read: "FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Denis Suarez to the latter."
Barcelona further posted on its twitter handle, "[BREAKING NEWS] Agreement on transfer of Denis Suarez to Villarreal CF #FCBlive"
