The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi Inde, has announced he will proceed on voluntary retirement from August 18.
He confirmed this on Monday after paying a farewell visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, expressing that his retirement had also been accepted by the president.
According to him, he voluntarily decided to retire so that "young bloods" will take over the mantle of leadership of the NCS, and improve on his legacies.
"Tomorrow (Aug 18), I will be six years as Comptroller-General of Customs" he said "and after wide consultations, I decided to personally meet him (Mr. President) and express my gratitude and appreciation for serving for six years
"The only way the Nigeria Customs Service can move forward, I feel personally is my making a sacrifice. The sacrifice is to give chance to others so that they can come up and continue with the legacies and the reforms and structure that I have put in place.’’ he said.
His resignation was accepted by President Muhammadu Buhari, having reportedly received a letter from him earlier, dated, August 3.
The retiring Customs boss' six-point agenda which he tenaciously pursued included: Capacity Building of Officers and Men, ICT - Maximization of the potential of e-customs, Moral Rebirth for Integrity, Enhanced Welfare for Officers and Men, Collaboration with Stakeholders and also Coordinated Public Relations activities to foster mutual understanding.
