President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed William Babatunde Fowler as Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Aliyu Yahaya Gusau as Director-General , Budget Office of the Federation.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Fowler replaces Samuel Odugbesan, a former Coordinating Director, who was appointed by former president, Goodluck Jonathan in March, 2015.
The new FIRS boss, worked in the banking sector for about 20 years, after which he joined the service of the Lagos State Government.
He was Chief Executive Officer/Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue between 2005 and 2014.
Under him, the board reportedly experienced a sharp rise in the revenue generated.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Business Administration degree from the California State University.
He was awarded Honorary Senior Member of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in 2004, and Professional Honorary Doctorate Degree in June 2007 by the Irish International University.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and also a Fellow of the Business Management Association (UK)
Until his appointment is confirmed by the Senate, he will serve as the Acting Executive Chairman of the FIRS.
