Boko Haram commander captured as Army rescues 178 people

The Nigerian military announced on Sunday that it had captured a Boko Haram commander and rescued 178 people in an offensive.

The commander of the terror group was arrested in an collaborative offensive involving troops of 21 Brigade and elements of 151 Task Force Battalion of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, spokesperson of the division, Tukur Gusau, said.

According to the Army, the captured Boko Haram commander is currently undergoing investigation. 

Among the 178 people rescued, 101 were children, 67 women and 10 were men.

“Also, three Boko Haram flags were recovered while five motor cycles were burnt by the troops,” Mr. Gusau said

Nigerian troops successfully cleared terrorist camps in Fadan, Shuwarin, Wulari, Ngoro Dauye, Jidori, Alikashiri, Kalzamari-Shuwa and Kalzamari-Kanuri amongst many others he said

“The troops morale remains high as they are determined to consolidate on the success achieved so far under Operation LAFIYA DOLE,” he further added.
