President Buhari to discuss bilateral and international cooperation against terrorism on visit to US

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja for Washington DC on Sunday July 19, 2015 on a four-day official visit, during which he will hold talks with President Barack Obama and other senior officials of the United States Government.

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, topmost on the agenda of the President is how to strengthen and intensify bilateral and international cooperation against terrorism in Nigeria and West Africa.

“President Buhari, will meet with President Obama at the White House on Monday July 20, and later hold further discussions, on military and defence cooperation, with the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Martin Dempsey and the Deputy Secretary of Defence, Robert Work” Adesina said.

The President will also meet with US Secretary of State, the United States Senate and Congressional Committees on Foreign Relations as well as the Black Caucus of the US House of Representatives. 

The President's entourage will include the State Governors of Imo, Nasarawa, Edo, Borno, CBN Governor, the Permanent Secretaries of the Federal Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs as well as the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment who will host an interactive session with Nigerians in the American Diaspora.

It is believed that the trip will also afford the President an opportunity to reunite with members of the American War College Class of 1980, before his return on Thursday July 23, 2015.
