NIMASA gets new Acting Director General

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced Mr Calistus Obi as the Acting Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the agency.

In a statement, Deputy Director/Head of Public Relations of NIMASA, Mr Isichei Osamgbi, said that the appointment followed Dr. Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi's hand over to him.

Last week, Akpobolokemi was relieved of his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the agency. His first four-year tenure had expired in October 2014 but he was immediately reappointed for another four-year tenure by the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was directed to handover the property of the agency to the most senior officer.

The new Acting-Director General, Calistus Obi, until his appointment however, was the Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services of the agency. He had acquired over two decades of experience in law as well as in the maritime industry.

Obi who hails  from Ihiala Local Government Area of Imo State, was born on May 1, 1964, and studied Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

According to the statement "After duly completing the mandatory Law School programme, he bagged a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.’’ 

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and was called to the Bar in 1991. He was also a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), Fellow, Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators as well as other professional associations.
