Coroner's Verdict: Collapsed Synagogue building Engineer and Supervisor will be prosecuted - Gov Ambode

 The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has said, the verdict of the Coroner’s inquest into the collapsed Synagogue building that killed 116 people, will be upheld in consonance with the rule of law.


In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Habib Aruna, the Governor said his administration will uphold and enforce the sanctity of the law in the state.

The Governor assured that, the state will act on the recommendations of the Coroner's inquest, which included, investigating and trying for criminal negligence, the structural engineers/contractor who constructed the building, among other things.

According to the statement, the state government “will cause
the prosecution of the contractor, Mr Akinbela Fatiregun of Hardrock Engineering Company Limited and structural engineer, Mr Oladele Ogundeji, who constructed and supervised the collapsed building respectively at the Synagogue Church of All Nations for professional negligence.”

The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) will also be prosecuted for neglecting to obtain building approval before commencing the building, contrary to the provisions of the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2010 the statement said.

The governor, however, appealed to residents of the state to always allow emergency workers  perform their duties during emergencies, as they are trained for this purpose.
