The Oodua Peoples Congress and a group known as Coalition of Concerned Nigerians on Monday morning led a protest to demand the sack of the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, before the March 28 elections. The protesters stormed the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, as early as 8am where they converged and proceeded on the protest at 10am.
The campaign group and the members of the OPC, moved from 7UP/Toll Gate end of the expressway, chanting anti- Jega songs, while calling for his sack.
Heavy traffic built up along the highway as the protesters, protected by heavy police presence took part of the road, leading to the national axis.
The protesters took time to distribute leaflets containing seven reasons why the INEC boss should be sacked. The leaflet also contained what the OPC described as the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan and why the President should be re-elected.
The protesters moved to the National Stadium, Surulere, through Ikorodu Road, where OPC leader Otunba Gani Adams gave reasons for the call for Jega's removal.
Gani Adams said, "we call for the sack of Jega who has shown that he has been dining with APC. We have reasons to believe Jega held a meeting with the APC as earlier carried by the media. Some prominent Nollywood stars were part of the match.
Tahdnews recalls that the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) had on Friday protested in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, among other locations in the South-East, for the removal of Jega, the INEC chairman.
