The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has dismissed allegation that former Governor Kayode Fayemi donated N1.5bn to the Buhari Campaign Organisation‎.

The party said Fayemi had no account with Barclay’s Bank in Ghana saying such an allegation was “the handwork of the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.”

A statement by the Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, stated that some officials of the PDP had been identified as masterminds of the SMS being syndicated on the Internet and the state news media alleging that Fayemi made the donation.

“The spurious allegation, which started as a syndicated SMS by PDP officials, was later broadcast on the state radio and television under the supervision of state officials,” the party secretary said.

According to him, the allegation is merely a panicky response by the
PDP’s administration to the Buhari’s growing popularity across the nation as well as the imminent change through the February 14 poll.

“This latest attempt to tarnish the good image of Dr Fayemi through this wicked and senseless allegation has failed just like other plots being hatched by the PDP in the build-up to the general elections.

Olatunbosun said the fresh antic was to divert people’s attention from the failure of the Governor to account for the N22bn refunds for federal road constructed by the state and N2bn ecological fund the Federal Government paid into the coffers of Ekiti State government.

“It is important to place it on record that Dr Fayemi does not have any account with any Barclay’s Bank in any part of the world, hence the issue of the donation does not arise.
