On April 1, Emmanuel Nwajagu was arrested following a viral video in which he threatened to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos to protect Igbo-owned properties in the state. The video, which lasted for 49 seconds, showed Nwajagu saying that all IPOB members would protect the shops and that they would be paid for their services. He insisted that the Igbo people must have their security so that they will stop being attacked at any time of the day. Nwajagu was taken before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, where he was remanded in prison custody.
Reacting to Nwajagu’s statement, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the command would resist IPOB's presence in the state. Nwajagu was later arraigned by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice before Justice Yetunde Adesanya on Tuesday.
It is important to note that IPOB has been designated a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government, and any association with the group is considered a criminal offense. The government has also banned the group's activities in Nigeria. As such, the call for IPOB members to protect Igbo-owned properties in Lagos is a violation of the law.
