The Presidential Inaugural Committee has invited Peter Obi of the Labour Party to the presidential inauguration of Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress candidate won the presidential election with 8,794,726 votes, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party came second with 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi came third with 6,101,533 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Obi was assigned Seat No. 101 at the event. Meanwhile, in March, Obi and the Labour Party filed a petition at the presidential election tribunal challenging Tinubu’s victory at the poll, stating that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the election and "was not duly elected by the majority of the lawful votes cast at the time of the election" and asked the tribunal to direct INEC to present him with a certificate of return as the duly elected President of Nigeria instead of Tinubu.
The petitioners (Obi and LP) also asked the tribunal to cancel the election and compel INEC to conduct a fresh election at which Tinubu, Shettima, and the APC shall not participate.
