The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon E. Arase, has directed that anybody found selling petrol and other petroleum products in plastic containers be arrested by the Police.

The IGP, issued the directive in Abuja on Monday, saying he is concerned by the "untold suffering as well as hazard emanating from the
activities of black marketers, especially those who sell petroleum products inside plastic containers/jerry-cans"

The act according to the IGP has further "rendered some innocent and law abiding citizens homeless due to fire outbreak from jerry-can petrol storage."

Arase has therefore cautioned fuel attendants at filling stations to desist from selling petrol in jerry-cans/plastic containers,  warning that "both buyers and sellers of the product will be arrested and prosecuted under the law."
