The Inspector –General of Police, Solomon Arase has ordered that persons or group of persons inciting violence and social disorder across the country be arrested.
In a statement signed by Ag. ACP Olabisi Kolawole, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the directive became imperative due to recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in parts of the country.
According to the statement, "this operational order empowers the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation."
Sequel to this development, 4 people have been arrested in Anambra State, 6 in Imo, 11 in Delta and one person in Abia State.
Anyone so arrested for inciting violence, will be charged to court accordingly, the statement said, irrespective of their class or status in the society.
