The Federal Government has declared Thursday, Oct. 1 public holiday to mark Nigeria's 55th Independence celebration.
This was announced by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mr Abubakar Magaji, on behalf of the government, in a statement signed by Yusuf Isiaka the Ministry's Director of Press.
The statement announcing the public holiday was made available on Monday in Abuja.
Magaji, congratulated Nigerians home and abroad, thanking them for the support they have so far given to President Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts to build a thriving nation.
He further urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for peace and unity of the country.
Recall that the government has decided to make this year's celebration a low-key event, budgeting just N70 million Naira, in its efforts to cut costs, due to the country's current economic state.
The following events were approved by the president for the Oct 1st celebrations.
- Jummat prayers, at the Abuja National Mosque on Sept. 25,
- Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service at the Abuja National Christian Worship Centre on Sept. 27,
- Ceremonial Change of Guards on Oct. 1 at the Presidential Villa and
- Children's party on Oct. 3. at the Presidential Villa
