Gunmen on Friday night attacked the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Lokoja reports say.
Explosions and gunfire were reported to have been heard on Friday night as soldiers from the Maigomeri Barracks provided support to the DSS operatives in an effort to repel the attack.
According to reports, the attackers stopped a truck, shot at the driver and used it to barricade the road.
The DSS has not yet made an official statement about the attack which was said to have begun around 10:30pm on Friday
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, however confirmed the death of a policeman when a team of security forces from the Police, the Army and DSS engaged the attackers.
“I cannot confirm whether they are Boko Haram members or not. All I know is that they are criminal elements and the law will take its course." he said.
An eye witness reportedly told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gunmen barricaded the adjoining roads to the office and shot at motorists from all directions.
