FG to save $1 million from this year's Hajj

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said there will be no federal government delegation at the 2015 hajj pilgrimage.

In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, assured that government would not fail in its obligations to the citizens in terms pilgrimage regardless of the absence of government delegation.

This decision is estimated to save government about one million U.S Dollars and N30 million in local expenses Premium Times reports.

Mr. Shehu assured that government would extend consular, medical and welfare support to all pilgrims as expected.

He further said that President Buhari decided against a government delegation for procedural and economic reasons.

“The states can deal with that (meaning appointment of own delegations) but this year at the Centre, we will not be involved,” Mr. Shehu quoted the President as saying.
