FG condoles with the family of late Ambassador to the US, Prof. Adefuye

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of the Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S., Prof. Adebowale Adefuye.

A statement signed by the ministry’s Director, Public Communications Division, Mr Amedu Ogbole-Ode on Friday in Abuja, said Adefuye died at a U.S. hospital on Aug. 27.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets to announce the death of Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Amb. Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye.

"The sad event occurred in a hospital in the United States yesterday, 27th August, 2015,” it said.

According to the statement, the late envoy was born in 1947, in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

Adefuye served as the Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica, with concurrent accreditation to Haiti and Belize from 1987 to 1991. He also served as the Deputy High Commissioner in London from 1991 to 1994.

Late Adefuye was appointed by the Commonwealth as the Deputy Director of Strategic Planning during his service in London, the statement added.

He served as an adviser to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) between 2008 and 2010 before his appointment as the Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S.

"The Permanent Secretary, Amb. Bulus Lolo, and the entire officer Corps and Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extend their condolences to the family of the deceased.

"We pray that the Almighty grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement said.
