A former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, has emerged winner of the APC governorship primary which held in Lokoja this weekend.
He defeated Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim the only female among the 28 aspirants, vying for the post.
Audu got 1,109 votes, beating his closest rival Alhaji Yahaya Bello who polled 703 votes
The Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, commended the aspirants for respecting the ideals of the party.
El-Rufai urged the winner, Audu to work closely with the other aspirants of the party to ensure the APC won the forthcoming elections slated for Nov 21.
Among 3,548 delegates, the Electoral Panel accredited 3,044 out of the 3,548 delegates present, while 29 votes were declared invalid.
In his speech, Audu expressed his appreciation to members of the electoral panel for making the election transparent and credible.
He also called on other aspirants to accept the result in good faith so they could all work in harmony.
"Let us work together in harmony, we have a serious task ahead. To unseat an incumbent is not easy but we can do it" he said.
His closest rival Alhaji Bello, who spoke on behalf of the other aspirants, expressed that the election was transparent, free and fair.
He further urged the emerged winner to ensure all aspirants and stakeholders are carried along, assuring that they would all work together with the emerged winner to ensure victory for the party at the forthcoming election.
