In its bid to elicit more public support for military operations across the country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has launched an initiative known as `see something, say something.’. The pilot launch of the programme took place in Yola, Adamawa State.
A statement issued by Air Commodore Dele Alonge, the Director Public Relations and Information of the force in Abuja, said the programme was also designed to create more security awareness.
The initiative, launched at a security sensitization lecture organised for residents of Yola was to allow the public become actively involved in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
"The objective is to get the civil populace to share information with security agencies or report the activities of suspected persons or members of the Boko Haram group to NAF officials or security personnel." the statement said.
"The initiative recognizes the collective role and responsibility of the people - military and civil alike, in fighting terrorism.
"It is thus a new approach by NAF to enhance the effectiveness of the on-going counter insurgency operation in the North-Eastern part of the country.’’ the statement further read.
According to the NAF spokesperson, members of the public are to help spread the message by educating the younger ones with a view to bringing all hands on deck to defeat the terrorists.
Alonge also emphasized the need for the civil populace to be more security- conscious and to promptly report observed suspicious behaviours to security forces.
