British Prime Minister, David Cameron has demanded that porn websites implement strict age check measures or face being shut down.

One way of doing that is to set up an independent regulator to force internet service providers (ISPs) to block offending sites under the threat of fines.

According to Cameron, if under-18s are not locked out from viewing explicit images he will take action.

"I want to see age restrictions put into place or these websites will face being shut down." Cameron has threatened.

Although many porn websites currently ask those who visit to enter their date of birth or click a button to agree they are above 18, before allowing access, minors can enter a different age and still gain access.

Cameron proposes that rather than use this method that does not truly block access to minors, websites should ask for bank details or credit card details instead.

"Our one nation government is working hard to make the internet a safer place for children, the next step in this campaign is to curb access to harmful pornographic content which is currently far too widely available" Cameron said.

Filters have been recently introduced by some ISPs to block adult content by default, meaning users have to opt-out to view explicit content.
