The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released timetable for governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States.
Both elections according to INEC will hold in 2015, according to statement released on Friday, by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Chris Eyimoga.
The election in Kogi is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, while that of Bayelsa will hold on Saturday, December 5.
According to the statement, “campains by political parties shall commence on 24th July, 2015 and end on 19th November, 2015 in Kogi and 6th September, 2015 terminating on 3rd December, 2015 in Bayelsa”.
Kogi State primaries for nomination of candidates by political parties will hold between August 25 and September 15; while that of Bayelsa is between 7th - 30th of September, 2015.
Deadline for submission of list of candidates, CF002, and personal details, CF001, for the positions of Governor and Deputy Governor shall be November 14 for Kogi State and October 7 for Bayelsa State.
In this regard, formal notices of the elections would be issued not later than August 23, for Kogi State; and September 5, for Bayelsa State, in accordance with the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
The tenures of of Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State expires 27th January, 2016, while that of Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa expires 14th February 2016.
Bayelsa and Kogi States did not hold elections during the last general elections, following the nullification of previous polls by the Court and conduct of fresh elections which entitles the winner to spend their full tenure of 4 years in office.
