The United States and Spain Embassies in Nigeria in separate moves, have condemned Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.
Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State John Kirby, in a statement said the American government “strongly condemns the horrific and indiscriminate Boko Haram suicide attack on the Grand Marche in the Chadian capital of N’Djamena on Saturday, July 11, as well as attacks in Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria over the past two days.”
“Boko Haram’s targeting of men, women, and children highlights that the group’s brutality and barbarism know no bounds, and we remain committed to working closely with the region to root out the threat posed by the group,” he said.
The Spanish government expressed its condolences to the affected regions, reiterating its support for all countries battling the Boko Haram insurgents. It said the group had perpetrated the most atrocious acts against humanity in a particularly cowardly manner against women and girls.
The US commended the security forces of Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria on their efforts so far, and reiterated its determination to continue to support the governments and people of the Lake Chad Basin region in the ongoing struggle to defeat Boko Haram.
