The former Acting IGP Solomon Arase who was took over from Solomon Abba in April has finally been confirmed this afternoon by the Police Council as the new Police IG.

This confirmation came as the Police council met at the council of state meeting held today, and chaired by the out-going president of the country, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The IGP  spoke with State House Correspondents, promising that under his watch, the Police will deliver dutifully, bring crime to its barest minimum and ensure justice for
all Nigerians.

He further promised to upgrade the welfare of the members of the Police Force to motivate them and will not renege on his promise to ensure the Highways are free of road blocks.

He had earlier warned Commissioners of Police that the command of any jurisdiction where roadblocks are found would be held liable and swiftly dealt with.

To ensure compliance with his directives on the removal of road blocks, a 16-team task force according to him has been set up to ensure the removal of the road blocks which he had earlier referred to as public nuisances
