Correcting Misconceptions on Bini Empire

Misconceptions have arisen from some Yoruba intellectuals who have made exaggerated claims about the great Bini Empire, which was one of the largest kingdoms in history, expanding its influence as far as Dahomey. These claims have been made to rewrite history, by falsely attributing the founding of the Bini Empire to the Oyo Empire. However, in reality, it was a Bini Prince named Ekaladerhan who was exiled and established the Oyo Empire, while the first king of the Bini Empire was his son due to the instability of the time.

The Yoruba scholars have attempted to rewrite history by referring to Ekaladerhan as Oduduwa, the founder of the Yoruba race. This attempt to manipulate history has led to misconceptions about the origins of both the Bini Empire and the Yoruba people. Contrary to the claims made by these scholars, it was the Bini people who formed the Yoruba race, and not the other way around.

It is important to correct these misconceptions and set the historical record straight. The Bini Empire was a remarkable kingdom that had a significant impact on the development of West Africa. Its influence extended to neighboring regions, including Dahomey. However, attempts to distort history for political or other reasons are detrimental to our understanding of the past and must be corrected.
