The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today exonerated the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Hon Danladi Yakubu Umar, of alleged 10 million Naira bribery allegation by one AbdulRashid Owolabi, in his petition to the Commission.
The letter addressed to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, and signed by Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo, Secretary to the Commission was captioned “RE: Investigation Report RE: N10million Bribery Allegation against the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja”

The EFCC in the letter said it stands by its earlier position that the bribery allegations were merely suspicions and insufficient to prosecute the CCT chairman.

The letter read "We would like to reiterate the Commission’s position in regard to this matter as earlier communicated to you and state that the allegations leveled against Justice Umar were mere suspicious and consequently insufficient to successfully prosecute the offence."

Recall that the Chairman of the CCT, is sitting to hear a 13-count charge of corruption leveled against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

That Senate president on Wednesday accused the CCT chairman, of bias and had asked him to withdraw from the case, citing section 36 (1) of the constitution.

The clearance letter from the EFCC was second to the previous one sent on March 5th, 2015 during President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, through the office of the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim Pius.
