The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested one Alhaji Umar Audu Bida, chief executive officer, Universal Contractors Limited.
He was picked up for alleged being in possession of fake Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) documents for the supply of crude to an American business partner, Donald Laletta, CEO, North Park LLC according to the EFCC.
Bida, 62, was arrested at his residence on Gumel Road, Kaduna, with fake documents pertaining to the lifting of crude by vessels.
He however claimed the documents were obtained from the agents to the seller - Lambda, Double Wonder and Days Marines Services- who allegedly claimed to have had crude oil for sale.
The suspect who acts as the complainant's agent in Nigeria, allegedly attempted to defraud him after signing a Sales and Purchase Agreement, (SPA).
The commission is investing claims by the complainant who said he paid the suspect $8m, $10m and $12 at different times, and also raised a letter of credit, to the tune of $100m via a courier company, in favour of the suspect's company.
