Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been banned by the Football Association, for three matches following what it described as violent conduct in Saturday's 2-0 win against Arsenal.

Costa appeared to twice rake his hands across Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny's face before chest-bumping him to the ground as the game approached half time.

Arsenal defender Gabriel then came over to defend his teammate, which led to he and Costa receiving yellow cards following a confrontation.

A minute later, Gabriel was shown a red card by referee Mike Dean, for flicking a boot at the Chelsea player.

The FA however has decided that Gabriel's red card will be revoked, while Costa will face a three-match ban.

Chelsea while appealing against the charge said in a statement "We are extremely disappointed with the FA Regulatory Commission's decision to suspend Diego Costa, We will await their written reasons before commenting further."
