Stacked Koenig crates |
Thieves who broke into a shop in Germany, opened 1,200 bottles of Koenig Pilsener beer, without consuming the content itself, NBC reports.
The burglars left the containers stacked neatly in their crates while the brew itself was left inside to spoil.
The burgled shop reportedly, had different brands of drinks and investigators were surprised to find that all of the opened bottles were of the same brand.
Investigations however pointed to the fact that the thieves possibly opened the drinks hoping tofind bottle caps that would allow them win prizes offered through a brewery promotion.
The bottle caps were found to have had tokens printed on them, with some entitling the holder to win tools, speakers etc.
Many of the caps didn't have winning prizes underneath and the thieves left many of the metal corks littered across the shop's floor.
A Koenig Brewery spokesman, Marc Baron, said it was "quite incredible" to find someone who would go that far, to steal crown corks in order to win prizes.
"We have no way to track where the bottle caps were sold or in this case stolen, but we will now watch for someone who sends in an unusually high number of caps," he said.
