For the people of Ilunla community, Aradagun Badagry in Lagos State, all should not be left in hands of the state government as it is faced with too many challenges such as construction of roads, security and other basic amenities.
Over the years, the Ilunla community development association led by Mr. Semako Ayeni has been in the fore front of lobbying for basic amenities such as transformers for the community, while it also prides itself in executing projects which are geared towards ensuring a better life for residents of the community.
On Saturday January 31, 2015 the Ilunla CDA in an effort to generate funds for the purchase of concrete poles to replace wooden electric poles in the community organised a raffle draw for residents.
In an event chaired by Lagos State Special Adviser on Rural Development, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, the raffle draws were held and Mrs. Mobolaji Ishola a resident of the CDA went home with the first Prize of a refrigerator. Other prizes included a Plasma Television and a generator as the second and third prizes respectively, with lots of other consolation prizes.
Ilunla CDA Chairman Mr. Semako Ayeni said “We spend about N10, 000 each time to replace poles due to damage from termites and we felt changing them to concrete poles was better.”
We came up with the idea of using the raffle tickets to generate cash, though the response was slow, we thank God we were able to give the prizes we promised.” he added.
Hon. Babatunde Hunpe commended the CDA for their efforts in developing the community, noting that the state government was aware of their plight and was working to bring the needed development to the area.
He also said that the state government had awarded the construction of the Aradagun Iworo-Ajido road and at the moment, work was concentrated at the bridge in Imeke area of the project
Hon. Hunpe urged residents of the area to ensure they collect their PVC and exercise their civic responsibility at the poll by voting for the party of their choice.
Government should support communities like this in their quest for development.
